1. Check Your Activation Status
- Open Settings:
- Press
Win + I.
- Press
- Go to Update & Security > Activation.
- Check if your Windows is already activated:
- Activated: You’re good to go!
- Not activated: Proceed with the steps below.
2. Locate Your Product Key or Digital License
Product Key:
- A 25-character code typically found:
- On a sticker (for physical copies).
- In the confirmation email (for digital purchases).
- In the packaging (if purchased from a store).
Digital License:
- If you upgraded from a genuine Windows 7 or 8, your PC is linked to a digital license.
3. Activate Using a Product Key
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
- Click Change product key.
- Enter your 25-character product key and click Next.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete activation.
4. Activate Using a Digital License
If your PC has a digital license:
- Ensure you’re signed in with the Microsoft account linked to your license.
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
- Click Troubleshoot if it says “Windows is not activated”.
- Follow the instructions to activate.
5. Activate via Command Prompt (Optional)
For advanced users, you can activate via the command prompt:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
- Press
Win + S, type “cmd”, right-click, and select Run as Administrator.

- Enter the following commands:
- To install the product key:
slmgr /ipk <Your-Product-Key> - To activate online:cmd
slmgr /ato - To check activation status:cmd
slmgr /xpr

If activation fails:
- Use the Activation Troubleshooter in Settings > Activation.
- Contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.
